The Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre (Ma Mawi) was created in 1984 by committed community members who sought an Aboriginal solution to supporting and rebuilding families. As a non-mandated agency, Ma Mawi provides culturally relevant preventive and supportive programs and services to the Aboriginal community in the areas of Family Support, Family Violence Prevention, Foster Care, Homemaker Services, and Youth Support Services. All of Ma Mawi's programs and services are community-based and operate within a philosophy that is embodied in their name, which translated from Ojibway means: "We all work together to help one another."

The Youth Resource Centre offers short-term emergency shelter and basic needs walk-in resource services to youth. The Youth Resource Centre/Shelter offers short-term, overnight, emergency shelter to 8 youth ages 12 - 17 years of age per night. Beds are assigned on a first come first serve basis every night. Crisis intervention counselling, food, hygiene needs, shower, clothes and case management are all services offered to youth accessing a shelter bed. The Youth Resource Centre/Shelter also offers referral, advocacy, resources, informatin and short term basic needs services to youth ages 12 to 20 years of age on a walk-in basis.

The Life Train Program provides an individualized approach that supports adult participants (18 - 29 years of age) to develop their "skills for life", pre-employment, job search and self advocacy skills. We also assist with career planning. Participants receive help with basic needs and also become familiar with computers and other resources in the community as a result of their participation in our program. We help participants find work and support them while they are on-the-job. We are also linked to Community Connections and can provide a message service at no cost to participants so that when they are looking for work, employers have some way to contact them. There is also a follow-up component particpants can access if they need support after they have exited the program.

The Manitoba Adolescent Treatment Centre (MATC) offers mental health services for children, youth and families. MATC provides mental health services to children and youth with psychiatric and/or emotional disorders. A full continuum of programs and services, both community and hospital based, are available to residents of Manitoba, Nunavut and northwestern Ontario. The Baby Friendly Initiative is an international ten-step program established in 1992 by World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF to promote, support and protect breastfeeding worldwide in hospitals and in the community.
The Manitoba Baby Friendly Coordinating Committee Breastfeeding Resources are made up of information about breastfeeding and the Baby Friendly Initiative from international sources such as the WHO and UNICEF, as well as national sources like the Breastfeeding Committee for Canada and local sources from here in Manitoba. They are designed as a resource for health care professionals working to promote breastfeeding and the Baby Friendly Initiative in their health care facilities and communities. The Adolescent Parent Program at Murdoch MacKay Collegiate is designed to help teen parents complete their high school diploma while providing care for their infants.
The Wee Bairns Infant Centre, located on-site, is a licensed daycare facility for eight children from the ages of three months to two years and is accessible to parents on a 12 month basis. When the eight spaces are not needed for adolescent parents, placements are offered to working parents in the community with the understanding that adolescent parents have first priority.
The Adolescent Parent Program enables students full access to the total range of courses offered at Murdoch MacKay Collegiate. Students in the program are required to take a credit course in Parenting. The program allows monitoring of the students progress and the ability to lend support and guidance in their multiple roles as parents, students and part-time employees. Also, students in the program become a source of support and encouragement to each other.

The National Child Benefit (NCB) Initiative is a partnership among the federal, provincial and territorial governments, and First Nations that aims to help prevent and reduce the depth of child poverty, support parents as they move into the labour market, and reduce overlap and duplication of government programs. The NCB combines two key elements: monthly payments to low-income families with children, and benefits and services designed and delivered by the provinces and territories to meet the needs of families with children in each jurisdiction.
The Canada Child Tax Benefit (CCTB) represents the Government of Canada's contribution to the National Child Benefit. It is a non-taxable amount paid monthly to help eligible families with the cost of raising children under the age of 18. The program is administered by Canada Revenue Agency.

The Native Womens Transition Centre exists to support women who have been victimized, either in their interpersonal relationships or through systemic neglect, and who are left without the resources to independently make the lifestyle changes they feel are necessary. Ndinawe (Our Relatives Home) is a 16-bed short-term shelter for Winnipeg children and youth ages 11 to 17 who are living on the street and are at risk of abuse and exploitation. This includes youth who have had previous conflict with the law. Unlike most group homes, youth can admit themselves into Ndinawe safe home without the help of Child and Family Service workers. Nobodys Perfect is a program for parents of children from birth through age five. Youville Centre is the home to the Nobodys Perfect provincial office.
Nobodys Perfect has been developed for a particular group of parents those who for one or another reason have little access to other resources. The program gives parents a safe place to meet others with children of the same age and with whom they share interests and concerns. Nobody's Perfect programs are always free of charge. The Refuge is a support group and mentoring program for young mothers (approximately 14-24 years of age). The group meets Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Riverwood Church Community in Winnipeg. In 2003, Operation Go Home Winnipeg Chapter Inc. merged with Powerhouse Winnipeg Inc., a partnering street youth service, to become Resource Assistance for Youth (RAY). Rays mission statement is to provide youth with what they need, on their terms, to better their lives. Rossbrook House is a neighbourhood centre for children, youth and young adults. The heart and soul of Rossbrook is the drop-in. It offers a constant alternative to the destructive environment of the street. It is a place where youth meet their needs for socialization, recreation, personal development and crisis intervention. The informal atmosphere at Rossbrook lends itself to spontaneous games of pool, cards, board games, to sharing a meal and meeting new friends. Rossbrook is open 365 days of the year, 24 hours on weekends and any school holidays. The building is open from 8:00 a.m. to midnight on school days.
The Young Moms Program was formed in response to the needs of young single mothers who needed a break from their situation as well as the support of their community. The young mothers children are picked up and cared for by staff and volunteers while the moms go out for an activity.

Located at St. Johns High School, this after-hours drop-in clinic provides primary health care specifically to teens. Modelled on the Elmwood Teen Clinic, the St. John's Clinic is open for four hours, once a week, year round, and is staffed by a physician, nurse and youth health volunteer.
Drop-in teen clinic for St. John's students, partners and their children only held Wednesday afternoons from 12:15 to 4:15 p.m. (closed July and August).

Successful Teen Parenting is a ministry of Youth For Christ Winnipeg designed to help teen and young moms. Volunteers and staff serve as mentors in teen parent support groups, which are held at various locations including the Gospel Mennonite Church (232 Nassau St. North), Bethlehem Aboriginal Fellowship (294 Burrows Ave), Good News Fellowship (891 St. Mary's Rd), and Inner-City Youth Alive (418 Aberdeen). Taking Charge! provides services to help single parents on social assistance to become self-sufficient. Those eligible for participation are single parents in receipt of or eligible for social assistance. The Infant Development Program allows adolescent parents to continue their education by allowing them to bring their infants to school. The adolescent parent is expected to provide most of the one-to-one care for the child while the infant is in attendance.

Teen Stop Jeunesse provides a home away from home atmosphere for teens and offers alternatives to drugs and drinking for teens. Their day program is aimed at providing education and training for preparation to enter the work force. Young offenders can work their Community Service Order at the Centre, performing duties such as clean-up, maintenance and volunteering. Other services include family suppers held Monday to Thursday, recreation facilities, informal counselling, life skills program, homework assistance, outings, and guest speakers.

Teen Talk is a youth health education service of Klinic Community Health Centre that provides services from a youth perspective to youth in school, youth at risk and service providers. They believe that realistic prevention education focusing on sexuality, reproductive health, body image, mental health, and anti-violence issues is essential to ones well-being. Teen Talk has two program areas: workshops for youth and peer support. Teen Talk offers a peer support training program for those interested in talking to youth about workshop issues such as birth control, STDs, teen dating violence, and many others.

Villa Rosa provides residential living, medical care, education and counselling to single women and youth who are pregnant or have recently delivered their babies. Programs address communication skills, exploring adoption, anger management, living skills, self-awareness, prenatal care, child development, parenting skills, and personal growth for residents and non-residents in the community. Outreach, support groups, individual counselling, labour companionship, and follow-up programs are offered. Villa Rosa also provides postnatal courses to prepare young moms for independent living in the community.

The Teen Family Resource Centre at West Kildonan Collegiate is open to parents under the age of 21 with children between 3 months and 2 years of age. Although it is available to all parenting students, priority is given to Seven Oaks residents under the age of 18. Participants take a daily parenting class, which also acts as a peer support group. Students can earn extra credits by working in the Teen Family Resource Centre.

Winnipeg Child and Family Services is a branch of the Department of Family Services and Housing mandated under provincial legislation to support and strengthen families and work together with communities for the protection and care of children and the prevention of child abuse and neglect. Wolseley Family Place is a multi-service, not-for-profit, community-based program that promotes social support, cooperation and collective responsibility through an offering of a mix of education, information, activities, material support and other resources to families across a number of service and program areas. It is an informal place for families to meet and talk with other parents, and access peer support, midwives, a doctor and other staff on family-related issues. Womens Health Clinic offers Manitoba women community-based health care services and programs provided by female physicians, nursing practitioners, nutritionists, counsellors, and client service workers. Services include: pregnancy testing, birth control and unplanned pregnancy counselling, abortion referral, HIV/AIDS testing and counselling, and diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases. The Young Fathers program of Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre offers young men an opportunity to learn how to play a healthy, active role in their childrens lives. Young fathers learn new ways of healthy relationships towards their family. The program is delivered over 10 weekly sessions. Sample program topics include: healthy vs. unhealthy relationships, anger management, bonding with your baby, identifying babys needs, child development, cultural teachings, and Shaken Baby Syndrome.

Young Parents Connecting is a teen parent support group for young or expecting parents to hear and share information about pregnancy and parenting. Activities include preparing nutritious foods, talking to a public health nurse and nutritionist, and talking and singing with the little ones. On-site child care is available. Bus tickets for transportation to and from the group gatherings are available. Milk coupons are available for pregnant moms and until baby is six months old. Your Choice For Your Reasons is a pregnancy options resource package for teens and service providers. It was produced by Healthy Child Manitoba in partnership with the Adolescent Parent Interagency Network (APIN) and with assistance from a number of community organizations. The resource package includes a video, service provider handbook and a brochure. The video is intended to help Manitoba teenagers who are faced with a pregnancy explore the options available to them, including parenting, adoption and abortion.
It is hoped this resource package will be a useful and effective tool for service providers working with adolescents who are faced with the hard decision of determining which pregnancy option is best. The Youth Emergency Crisis Stabilization System is an intersectoral, interagency service sponsored by Manitoba Family Services, Manitoba Health, and Manitoba Education and Training. Its purpose is to provide community-based emergency and crisis services to children and their families in a timely and appropriate fashion. Access to services available through the Youth Emergency Crisis Stabilization System is through a 24-hour intake system. Crises are referred to the Mobile Crisis Teams; non-crises are referred to the appropriate service. All services are accessed through the intake line.
